Savings Secrets: 4 easy ways to get healthier and save money


So it’s the new year…you know what that means! Time to quit the smoking, start exercising and eating healthier right? Man those are some awesome goals, so how do you make sure you still have them next month? You make it easy on yourself! As someone who tries to live a healthier lifestyle on a regular basis, I can tell you that it CAN be easy. Too often we complicate our lives, but this is one area we can simplify. Here’s how. 

1. Switch over to whole grains. Avoiding white breads and things with bleached flour is one of the easiest things you can do to start eating healthier. And as long as you are watching those sales cycles, it can be cheaper to buy whole grains! Read your ingredient labels and stay away from things that have bleached flour.  2. Cut out the soda. I know it seems hard right now, but it can be done! Cutting out soda will allow you to save money AND it will keep you healthier. Sodas are filled with things like high fructose corn that get you craving even more food. Diet sodas contain things like aspartame, so they can actually be worse than regular sodas. 

3. Reduce the sweets and increase the fruits and veggies. It’s so tempting to put those cookies into the cart, but if you will limit those purchases, then you will make room in your budget for more fresh fruits and veggies. And let’s face it….those things are nicer to those love handles. 

4. Drink more water! Water helps the body heal and stay healthy. Everyone should be drinking at list 8 glasses of water per day. It’s an inexpensive way to stay healthy. People who drink more water tend to have an easier time losing weight and have clearer skin (double win!). Water is used for all of the body’s processes, so it’s an important liquid to consume regularly.
