A heat wave has spread across much of the United…
When we think of rainy days, we usually think of spring. As we all know, April showers bring May flowers! The thing is, it rains during other seasons, and come late summer and fall your candy pink umbrella and lemon yellow slicker may seem too spring-like to work with your wardrobe. I searched the web for some of my favorite fashion for inclement weather.
All of these pieces are long on style but short on price, ensuring you stay comfortable, dry, and stylish all season long: Kamik “Olivia” Rain Boot (via Amazon). These boots have the classic style of many popular brand names, but a price that is oh-so right (starting at just under $30). Not only that, these boots get rave reviews on Amazon.com. Choose black, brown or olive for a neutral look, or adopt a fall fashion trend and go red. Red is an unexpected neutral that will add a much-needed pop of color to a dreary day, and still compliment khaki, gray, black and olive outerwear.
Target Jersey Boot Liner. In fall, you’re not always wearing hosiery with your ensemble. If it’s a rain boot-worthy day, you’ll need legwear to keep your Wellies comfortable. These jersey boot socks from Target are just the thing. They are created to stay up under rain boots to prevent chafing and sweating–and the length is long enough to also fold over the top of the boot to give a completely different effect. The lighter-weight fabric is perfect for fall and the $9.99 price tag is quite nice.
Lands’ End Travel Umbrella. I love this umbrella and own two of them because I find them to be sturdy, reliable, easy to open with one hand, yet small enough to pop into my purse or laptop bag. They are usually $24.50 which is a pretty nice price for an umbrella that will last for years; Lands’ End has their persimmon print on sale for $14.99 and has colors that would look perfect with this fall’s fashion trends.
Lands’ End Canvas Lightweight Storm Jacket. Canvas is like Lands End’s hip younger sister–same great quality and classic style, but with a trendy youthful edge. I have many pieces from this line and love the quality, fit, and style. This jacket has everything: a hood that hides in the collar when not needed, a drawstring waist to define your figure, a lightweight fabric that can easily layer when you need more warmth, and a fabulous sale price of $29.99. Navy is a safe bet, but I am loving tomato and lemon as a choice to bring a sunny outlook to a gray rainy day.
Old Navy Canvas Trench Coat. A classic double-breasted trench for under $50? Yes, please! Old Navy is always a great place to go for wardrobe basics for less, and they don’t disappoint with this coat. This trench comes in Butterscotch (classic khaki) and Stainless Steel (dark gray)–both perfect neutral colors to complement this fall’s rich hues. This length will work with pants as well as skirts, can look just as elegant with a day dress as a pair of jeans and a tank top. Come cooler weather, pair with a Bordeaux-colored scarf for a very on-trend look to ward off chill.
Old Navy Printed Umbrella. This fall animal prints are back and better than ever. Embrace this trend without spending an arm and a leg with this $10 adorable cheetah-printed travel umbrella, also from Old Navy. The cheetah print with go with all neutrals (including the trench above) as well as fall’s hottest colors like red and Bordeaux. Reviews state it folds down to less than a foot in length, meaning you can easily slip it in your bag on any cloudy day.
Your Favorite Retailer’s Sale Rack. This is the time of year to score rainy-day gear for much less. In my nearby Ann Taylor I found a classic trench for over 50% off the original retail price; my friend recently picked up a great rain coat at Macy’s for only $15!
Fall’s fashion trends are classic, elegant, timeless. I always love when this style becomes popular because it means a boatload of pieces that will look great now as well as seasons from now. Keep this trend in mind to ensure that no matter what price you pay, you’ll get your money’s worth with miles of weather-appropriate style!
