Cyber Monday is a great time to score deals, but waiting for sales
isn't the only way to get discounts on items. Often you can
score great prices just by asking.
Here are the unwritten rules of how to haggle and when to do it.

Photo courtesy of Justin Henry, via FlickrAccording to a recent article on the environmental blog Grist,
we have Walmart to thank for our stuff falling apart.
The argument goes like this: thanks to Walmart's never-ending quest to
lower prices, we're seeing a steady drop in the quality and durability
of clothing, electronics, and other items. This means we have to replace
our stuff more, which in turn means we're spending more and doing
damage to the environment.

Doing your holiday shopping online can save you plenty of headaches and stress during the crazy shopping season. Knowing the very best days to shop for a particular item can also save you plenty of cash. If you're familiar with
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when retailers slash prices, you may have also heard of
Cyber Monday, the online version.
But online deals are available on other days as well, if you know what day of the week you should be looking.

Money Saving Tips
Image by Chiot's Run via FlickrI recently had the unfortunately experience of having the bearing go on my
dryer and had to decide if I would fix it or replace it. This is never an easy choice and was especially painful because it's the most convenient, easy to use dryer we've ever owned. For the curious, I should say that it was a
Fisher & Paykel, top load, drum, propane dryer. It's so much easier to get at laundry reaching straight down, rather than trying to bend over and reach into the back from the side.

Money Saving Tips
One of the benefits of living in Santa Monica is its proximity to the ocean lends itself to more temperate weather during the hot summer months. Unlike Valley residents, beach dwellers can usually keep cool through the use of fans rather than more expensive and energy draining A/C.
While I'm a proponent of the basic box fan, there are more decorative alternatives for those who prefer form to function. I bring you
Deco Breeze fans which combines both form AND function.

If you bought a single ice blended coffee drink every morning for a year at one of the big coffee chains, at more than $3 for even the small sizes, you're talking more than $1,000. That's more than most people are paying each year for cable or internet access!
Several companies are trying to cash in on the phenomenon while easing the cost of your habit with home frappe machines--but how do you know if any of them are good? Well, this is one of those times where writing for a
savings site has its advantages because, courtesy of
Mr. Coffee, for the last few weeks my husband and I got to test out a
Café Frappe machine (
list price $79.99, but we found it at several places for at least $10 less).
