When it comes to my kids playing videogames, I have two simple
rules: no more than 45 minutes per day, and nothing with blood,
guts, guns, and other violent images.
That leaves out a lot of the hot new releases, like Assassin's
Creed III, Dishonored, and Halo 4. If you're a parent like me, that
can create something of a quandary this holiday season: The kids
have outgrown the educational stuff, but you'd rather not expose
them to all that realistically rendered brutality.
Fortunately, alternatives exist.

Holidays
It's that time of year when kids get to dress up as their favorite character, hero or who they
want to be when they grow up. There are already some
Halloween freebies available and I'm sure there
will be even more as it gets closer.
To start there are several craft ideas...I like the one where you make
monster decorations out of juice boxes. You can grab an e-cookbook that's everything pumpkin and make
some dips and spreads. Don't forget to grab the free Jell-O mold--the mold is free, but it's $2.95 for shipping and handling, still a great deal from
Kraft. Make sure you stop by Kaboose.com for printables, party ideas, games and more.

Freebies
Summer is here, but sometimes the weather isn't always so nice. You can keep the kids occupied on rainy
days with all the free printables available. Kids will love coloring their favorite characters! There
is even a printable from
Disney where you can place your child into the story.
Chuck E. Cheese has a printable rewards calendar you can use for summer chores.
Fisher Price has printable greeting cards for kids to color. You have a lot
to choose from: Cars 2, My Little Pony, Kung Fu Panda, Ratatouille, Yo Gabba Gabba and more.
Make sure you have plenty of ink and paper so you can start printing!

The call goes out across the crowded classroom..."Rubber band fight!"
Ahem, and so begins this week's foray into the wild world of the Wacky Product of the Week.

Stuff We Like
I have to say it's not easy to explain a four year old why she can't get a new toy every day in every store, or wherever we go. Sometimes I feel like I'm raising a future shopaholic.

Money Saving Tips
This week, the Wacky Product of the Week blog wades deep into the strange and kooky basement waters of party days gone by. It's Beer Pong-related goofiness time folks. Not only that, but it's beer pong...for kids! Okay, not really. But maybe? Step back in time with me to a few years ago, or last week (
Chi Gamma Epsilon - Phi Lambda Rho alliance reigned supreme!) as we take a look at
Cuponk and its endless possibilities for hours of fun beyond what the game makers initially intended.
