When I received
Brush with Genius courtesy of University Games for review, I knew my daughter would be the coolest kid in preschool. After five failed attempts at trying to impress her friends on "Share a Toy" day, I knew this would be THE toy that would do the job. Just like its name, the idea is pretty genius and I couldn't wait to test it out.

Product Review
We are certainly in back to school mode here at Savings.com. Last week's
contest post announced the $50
Designer Linens Outlet gift card giveaway, perfect for a college freshman who's about to start their time in the dorms.
We had 63 entries on last week's post, and with the help of
random.org, we've chosen one of those folks as the DLO gift card winner.
And the winner is...

Take several weeks of summer break and add a dash of reminders about back to school and you will have an unhappy child with shrill shrieks of protest. With
Back to School shopping well under way, many parents have already begun the task of getting their kids ready for the first day of class.
But how can you prepare your child mentally without suffering from your own melt down?

Loose Change
My son Jack loves to draw. He has been obsessed with the
Magnadoodle since he was introduced to one on a plane (
thank you, kind woman, for loaning that to us in a time of desperate need!). He will draw and erase the same images over and over to perfect them. If he doesn't know how to draw something, he will ask an adult to draw it for him so that he can study how it's done before trying it himself. He did this even before turning two and hasn't grown out of it yet at almost four.
Of course I think he is a genius and a prodigy...

Stuff We Like
When it comes to my kids playing videogames, I have two simple
rules: no more than 45 minutes per day, and nothing with blood,
guts, guns, and other violent images.
That leaves out a lot of the hot new releases, like Assassin's
Creed III, Dishonored, and Halo 4. If you're a parent like me, that
can create something of a quandary this holiday season: The kids
have outgrown the educational stuff, but you'd rather not expose
them to all that realistically rendered brutality.
Fortunately, alternatives exist.

Holidays
It's that time of year when kids get to dress up as their favorite character, hero or who they
want to be when they grow up. There are already some
Halloween freebies available and I'm sure there
will be even more as it gets closer.
To start there are several craft ideas...I like the one where you make
monster decorations out of juice boxes. You can grab an e-cookbook that's everything pumpkin and make
some dips and spreads. Don't forget to grab the free Jell-O mold--the mold is free, but it's $2.95 for shipping and handling, still a great deal from
Kraft. Make sure you stop by Kaboose.com for printables, party ideas, games and more.
