Looking for a videogame gift to put under someone's tree? If you're
a parent like me and the recipient is a teen, tween, or even
younger kid, you might prefer something free of blood, guts, guns,
and other violent images.
Alas, that leaves out a lot of the hot new releases, including
Assassin's Creed IV, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Grand
Theft Auto V. I'm not wild about exposing my kids to so much
realistically rendered brutality. (That's what TV is for! Kidding,
Cancel your weekend plans. Come to think of it, cancel next
weekend's plans, too. You're about to score a boatload of top-rated
(and genuinely great) games for an embarrassingly low price. Your
free time is no more.
For a limited time, the Humble Origin Bundle offers six top-rated
Electronic Arts games for whatever price you want to pay.
(Well, there's a $1 minimum.) And if you beat the average
(currently a mere $4.74), you get two additional titles.
The vast majority of bundles I see are for indie games -- many of
which are great, yes, but there's a reason games like Battlefield 3
sell a gazillion copies. And there are times when you want to know
exactly what you're getting, which can be difficult with the indie
When it comes to my kids playing videogames, I have two simple
rules: no more than 45 minutes per day, and nothing with blood,
guts, guns, and other violent images.
That leaves out a lot of the hot new releases, like Assassin's
Creed III, Dishonored, and Halo 4. If you're a parent like me, that
can create something of a quandary this holiday season: The kids
have outgrown the educational stuff, but you'd rather not expose
them to all that realistically rendered brutality.
Here's a few back to school freebies, including one for
teachers! If your a teacher Staples is giving out free gift bags
with bonus coupons to the first 100 teachers at each store. Check
the link for the date in your area for Staples Teacher Appreciation Day. I've posted this
next freebie before but I want to remind everyone about it. For the
entire month of August, JCPenney's is offering free haircuts to all kids K - 6th grade.
Appointments are recommended. The free haircuts are available at
all JCP Salons in the USA.
It's getting down to the wire now. Just one week until the holidays are upon us and we all inevitably pack into the nearest CVS or grocery store to pick up gift cards for all the people whose gifts won't be arriving in time. Or at least, that's how it always seems to happen for me. One minute, it's Thanksgiving and I'm totally stoked for the holiday season--I'm making my list...and then BAM, it's Christmas Eve and I've only gotten things for myself from killer Black Friday sales.
Well, not this year! This year, I'm picking up last minute gifts that sure to wow my friends and family, including a Han Solo in Carbonite Ice Tray, 2012 Bubble Calendar and the Sharp-End Dog Pencil Sharpener.
That's right. Bet you didn't see those amazing ideas coming. Blew you away with my awesomeness, didn't I?
Buddy is an unusual elf at Santa's workshop. He's taller than most elves because, well he's not a real elf. He's human. When Buddy was a baby, he accidentally hitched a ride on Santa's sleigh one Christmas night. (Like, who wouldn't want to ride Santa's sleigh just once?)
Buddy was raised by an elf who taught him the most important skill an elf can learn--how to make toys! This year Buddy worked hard on making the Top 5 Hottest Christmas toys for kids.
