Hey kiddos, whether you like it or not, New York Fashion
Week has been in full swing, and all the fashionable people on the Internet are buzzing
about shows, photographers, and the right thing to wear when entering the
tents. While I have yet to attend
Fashion Week (no matter my passion, I need my work paycheck to pay the mortgage
and to fill my closet), I have learned from my fellow fashionistas that while
it is important to care about what you wear, it's equally important to be
informed and share your runway experiences.Below is a list of must-have phone apps and websites you should be checking out for the ultimate experience at New York Fashion week, or any fashion event
throughout the year.
A heat wave has spread across much of the United States; while writing this I am hiding out in my house blasting the A/C and keeping the shades drawn. Us fashionistas, however, need to leave our homes for work, errands and of course having fun.
How do you stay cool in such weather while still looking stylish?
Some seasons, I adore the current trends. Colors that look great with my skin, silhouettes that flatter my figure, shoe styles that are adorable and wearable. Some seasons I hardly spend a penny because the trends are so unwearable and unrealistic for my life. Summer 2011 has been a banner season for me--great hues, great style, and great little touches to update what I already own in my closet.
This is the year of accessories. It's amazing how one little addition can completely transform your ensemble, and how it can do it for just pennies. Here are some of my favorite ways to update your existing wardrobe for this season without spending and arm and a leg:
Social media outlets were all a-twitter this week regarding Gwyneth Paltrow's newsletter GOOP. GOOP is a newsletter (and website) where Paltrow shares her favorite places to visit, recipes, advice and inspiration from celebrity friends, and her random thoughts on topics important to her. This week, GOOP featured Gwyneth's choices for spring essentials.
The collection was full of simple, yet modern pieces that were are versatile and perfect for the season. Paltrow teamed with shopping site Net-a-Porter to offer these wardrobe essentials for purchase. The only problem" These "essentials" total over $18,000 ($16,434 for the clothing and shoes alone!). I doubt you can afford such a wardrobe, I know I can't. I usually hate "Dress for Less" articles because they pick pieces that may be similar, but don't give the same effect when actually worn.
However since I do believe Paltrow's "essentials" do make for a creative yet wearable spring and summer wardrobe, I scoured the 'net for pieces that give the same effect, but are available for much, much less.
Ah, springtime. Birds chirping, the trees budding, the sun shining. As the weather warms one thinks of barbecues, beach weekends, and showing more skin in warmer-weather fashion. It's time to ditch the boots for breezier footwear.
Here are the five must-have shoe looks for spring:
