Beauty sells. This fact is evident when evaluating advertisements for everything from designer jeans to fast food. Ask yourself, 'when was the last time I saw an unattractive person in a commercial?' According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, this "state of beauty" in the U.S. has fueled a cosmetic industry that performed 10.2 million surgical and nonsurgical procedures in 2008.
The most frequently performed nonsurgical procedure was Botox injections.

If you're an active person and a smartphone owner, I have two products to recommend. First is the
Spibelt, an impossibly comfortable sports belt with a stretchy pouch that can accommodate keys, cash, your phone and other walker/runner/biker essentials.
The second is the
Jabra Sport Bluetooth stereo headset, which lets you listen to music and FM radio and make/take calls while you're exercising--all without wires. (
Well, sort of.) The Sport has a list price of $99.99, but right now you can get it from
Amazon for
$60.99 shipped.

Product Review
I hate sports. I know that living in Southern California this goes against all the laws of nature--which include but are not limited to rooting for either the Angels or the Dodgers and getting excited about things like the Superbowl (
I like the Puppy Bowl...)--but really, sports just aren't my thing. I have broken about six fingers, torn some ligaments, and had various other injuries during my childhood, almost all of which were sports-related, so yeah. Me + sports = no thanks.
However, table tennis? That's a sport I can get excited about! The sound of the ping-pong ball, the whoosh of the paddle, the sweat on my brow. Ah yes, table tennis, the game of champions!
So imagine my excitement when I found this winning item from
Gizmine:
Self Table Tennis.

I was resistant to trying ocean kayaking. I had been river canoeing and river kayaking over 15 years ago with an experienced friend and I was a little afraid to get into a single kayak on the ocean by myself. I was worried that my not-so-strong arms would give out and that I'd have a hard time getting back to shore. I went ahead and gave it a try and I had a blast!

Stuff We Like
Image courtesy of kafka4prez via FlickrFather's Day, on June 19th this year, is fast approaching. You've (
maybe) already got your
Father's Day gifts covered, and now it's just a question of how to spend the day.
According to seasonal advertising, your options are limited to only the most traditionally masculine of activities. You can barbecue, attend a sporting event, have dinner at the Playboy Mansion, etc. But if you're tired of doing the same activities year after year, here are a few suggestions for frugal Father's Day activities outside of the hyper-masculine box.

Holidays
The biggest bike race in the United States, the Amgen Tour of California, ended on Sunday. This got me to take another look at my tired, a bit rusted, but still functional bike. There really are great benefits to riding a bike; it's fun, it's free (once you have the bike) and it's great exercise. You can also get to the nearest grocery store or restaurant relatively quickly. The days are getting longer, it's time to take out some chain lube and start riding.
