Happy National Waiters and Waitresses Day!
One of the reasons I go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant is to get good service. At home, I am the chef, waitress, busser, dishwasher and more. So going out means getting the service I deserve.
While the food aspect is important, if I don't get good service, it's probably safe to say I will never return even if the food is extraordinary. If the food is so-so but the service is excellent, I will probably return.
With good service, you should always reward your waiter or waitress accordingly. They make less than minimum wage and tips are really what they live off of. If you don't know if you're tipping correctly, here are some tips that will come in handy when you go out to eat next time:

Stuff We Like
Veteran's Day will be here November 11th. Every year businesses
love to say "Thank You" to the military by offering a freebie or
discount. All offers listed are for veterans and active duty. You
will be required to show proof of military service such
as: military I.D., DD214, etc.. Please call ahead to confirm
participation, as many offers specifically state "offer at
participating locations." Also, please note the dates for each
offer, they range from the 10th to the 12th.

Freebies
Veterans Day is November 11th and as a thank you to Veterans several businesses are offering
freebies or great deals. This year you can get a free night at a Bed & Breakfast and a few free meals.
If you're looking for a fun weekend, you can get free entry to Colonial Williamsburg for you and your dependents.
Free tickets are available for concert, sporting events and more, all you have to sign up!
If anyone reading this
has tickets you aren't going to use, you can donate them! National Parks have a free weekend if anyone wants
to do some camping. I recommend making sure you have your military ID on you when getting the freebies and deals below. None say they require it, but you may be asked to produce the ID.
If you're a veteran, a big hug to you from me in Seattle!

Holidays
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and an early Happy New Year to you! As we all sit back and reflect on the year that was, and make plans to have a better one, we may be missing the perfect opportunity to start making it great right now. I'm talking about taking advantage of loosened after-holiday return policies to get the things you really want.
Now I'm certainly not advocating you do anything dishonest, like returning a Blu-ray player your toddler tried to play a Ritz cracker in six months ago, but this is the season to return all the ugly and unwanted items you may have accumulated over the past year. Strike while the iron is hot people, you only really have about two weeks after Christmas before things go back to normal.
