Money Saving Tips
Image by jwinfred via FlickrMy son turned five this week (
I can't believe it!) and although we decided to forgo the party this year in favor of a trip to
Legoland, we did have a little family celebration and it got me thinking about party food. With Memorial Day weekend and barbecue season right around the corner, I thought I'd share a few ideas.

Loose Change
This week we cover news on illegal downloading, Facebook going after Google, how to buy used merchandise, how to see free movies, a good teen Samaritan, and overpriced (?) weddings.

Special Events
Okay, so I'll be the first to admit, this blog post is at least three days too late to be useful--but you can start planning early for next year.
You can throw a superb
Super Bowl party or watch the Indy 500 all day or have folks over for game 7 of the World Series, but the Kentucky Derby is like all the excitement of those events focused into a laser beam. They call it the fastest two minutes in sports for a reason--and that reason is not a misunderstanding of how time works. Because of that, a Derby party is quick and easy and therefore less expensive.
As an added bonus--unless you live near Kentucky--you are likely the only one of your friends having a party that weekend.

Loose Change
Image Courtesy of MarthaStewart.comFriends are definitely forever…except during the holidays. Between the shopping, decorating, entertaining, airport trips and the wrapping/unwrapping, sometimes our best buds fall to the wayside.
So rather than call each friend up with your humble apologies, try throwing a "Welcome Back to Reality Brunch" and help soften the blow of those post-holiday blues.

Holidays
The busiest retail day of the year--and plumbers seem to fair well, too. After you have had your fill of
Black Friday deals today, time to move forward and plan the next holiday party. Too soon? Nope. Besides retaining the "hostess with the most-est" (
or, ahem, "host with the most") crown takes preparation!
Here are a few ways you can prepare now or resurrect the party from disaster should it occur.

Shop Smarter
There's nothing like opening the door to a group of friends holding hostess gifts…not that I would throw a party just for that reason. I really wouldn't--but if I receive any of the gifts on the following list, I might consider it!
