Retouched and digitally enhanced beauty ads are everywhere. I was surprised to see a mascara commercial for
Cover Girl LashBlash Fusion that was sent to me last week with a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen that read, "
Lash inserts were applied to this model's lashes to add lash count before applying LashBlast Fusion." It was the first time I had seen a mascara ad come clean about using false eyelashes on models.

Recently,
Estee Lauder released their fiscal 2011 second-quarter earnings showing an 11.6% growth in revenue over the last year attributing it to the rapid growth in the skin care industry, mainly from anti-aging products and skin care for men. There is no doubt that new anti-aging products are constantly being introduced into the market promising younger looking skin -- there are ads for them everywhere! With the dizzying array of products that are currently available, it can tough to create an anti-aging regimen if you don't have the time to do the research. Many "top of the line" brands that claim to have the latest research or contain really expensive ingredients also have high prices to go with them.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money for younger looking skin, there are some effective anti-aging products out there that are available at reasonable prices. These are some of my picks for inexpensive line reducers with a good reputation to back them up:

It's a new year and women make new hair a part of their changes when making resolutions. Many
celebrities have embraced new hair colors for 2011. Last week Kate Beckinsale, known for her chestnut brown locks, is now a bright shade of blond. Lauren Conrad kissed her blond hair goodbye for a darker, taupe brown shade.
We all love getting pampered, but a trip to the salon for a new hue can easily cost anywhere between $100-$200. So why not give hair coloring at home a try? You can use at-home hair color to stretch time in between professional coloring or just eliminate it altogether. There are some great products out there to try, like
henna or semi-permanent, where you don't have to sacrifice the health of your hair for a new look.

Image Courtesy L'OrealA recent article at Forbes.com exploded the myth of a time-honored advertising tactic: the
celebrity endorsement. Specifically, Dorothy Pomerantz's piece cited a study by Ace Metrix which examined 2010 celebrity ads and found that 20% actually had a negative impact on the advertiser. The study findings were published at Advertising Age and show that on average only 12% of
ads featuring celebrities were effective.
This news must be especially disturbing to a number of brands who have shelled out millions and millions of dollars to celebs to act as the "face" of their products--especially as it comes on the heels of a spate of celebrity endorsement announcements that have surfaced in the last month or so:
