Now that Christmas is over, it's time to ramp up for the other big celebration: New Year's Eve. We know that restaurants and bars take advantage of this holiday by raising prices on dinners and drinks and calling them "package deals" Some people can afford it and are willing to go all out on December 31st, but others are looking for something low-key and low-cost.
If you're in the latter group, I've got some ways that you can celebrate NYE without breaking the bank.

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving, complete with tons of belly-busting food, drinks and good company. I'm actually still full from last week's feast and I'm sure most of you are feeling my pain. A ten day Master Cleanse sounds pretty good right now, but there are easier ways to get your body back on track. And, you might even have some of the digestive aids in your kitchen.
Here are some cheap and easy ways to get rid of that overstuffed feeling.

It's November and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I'm sure many of you carved pumpkins in celebration of Halloween. Hopefully, you were able to salvage some of the
pumpkin parts to eat for pie or to grow another pumpkin for next year. I'm a fan of pumpkin and love that it is packed with Vitamin A and fiber while being low in calories.
Here are some of my favorite food products.

With winter quickly approaching, I'm beginning to experience drier
skin than normal. It makes sense: once the humidity from the
summer is gone, the lower moisture content in the air affects your
skin. Conventional lotions can cost a lot of money and
contain nasty chemicals, dyes, and other additives that enter your
bloodstream almost immediately upon application. Fortunately,
there are many natural moisturizers that are cheap and natural that
you can use to quench your parched skin.
Here are some of my favorite frugal ways to combat dry skin:

Newsworthy
Dr. Oz triggered fear in parents with his claim that there is
arsenic in apple juice. After further investigation by the FDA, it has been concluded that the low levels of arsenic in apple juice are okay for consumption and parents can continue to feed them to their children. Apparently, arsenic is naturally present in food, water and air in both organic and non-organic forms. As long as the arsenic is organic, it's basically harmless.
While the anxiety over arsenic in Mott's apple juice has turned out to be a non-issue, another fruit is the focus of the latest food recall:
Cantaloupes from a Colorado farm
are infected with Listeria, a bacteria found in soil, stream water,
plants, sewage and food. The
outbreak has already killed two people and left another 22 sick. Infections caused by Listeria are potentially
fatal. Yikes! Who would have thought that a melon could kill you?
These two stories inspired me to write about food recalls. Thinking back, there have been several recalls lately.

In a recent article published by
Shape magazine, researchers discovered that women who drank five to seven times a week had 50% better health than non-drinkers or those who drank less often. Having one drink per day can lead to
successful aging which means less age-related illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, brain and physical ailments. Good news for those who enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine every now and then. No, this does not mean that you should go out and start drinking. But, if you are already drinking keep it to a maximum of one drink per day. Everything in moderation!
Of course, like anything, drinking alcohol can put a dent in your wallet. No worries: here are some budget-friendly, yet tasty alcoholic beverages you can enjoy all under $20.
