You know your prized DVD of "The Shawshank Redemption"? Wouldn't it
be cool if you could watch that movie on your phone, tablet, or
laptop? How about your Roku box or game console?
Last I checked, my iPad doesn't have a DVD player. However,
thanks to
a new service from Vudu, I can convert many of the
DVDs in my library to digital, cloud-accessible movies available
for streaming or downloading just about anywhere. And the first
conversion is free!
Vudu's Disc-to-Digital service originally required you to take
your movies to your nearest Walmart, but the new In-Home option
saves you the trip.

I love cheap entertainment. Wait, let me rephrase that: I love
entertainment that's cheap.
For example, recently I flew to California and back, which
amounted to about nine hours of flight time. Normally I'd stock my
iPad or Kindle Fire with movies, but for this trip I just couldn't
find anything I wanted to see.
That's when I made the lucky discovery that three of my
favorite comedians--
Aziz Ansari (best known for his role on "Parks and
Recreation"),
Jim Gaffigan, and
Louis C.K.--all had stand-up shows available
for purchase. For cheap.
If you've ever gone to see one of these guys in person, you
know that tickets can run in the neighborhood of $70-80.

Amazon Instant Video. Hulu Plus. Netflix. These big-three video
services get all the ink, but there's another source for TV and
movies you might want to check out.
It's called
Crackle, and it's free.
Though you've probably never heard of it, Crackle's been around
since 2007, when it was acquired by Sony (and known as Grouper).
For the past two years or so, the service's primary claim to fame
was streaming episodes of "Seinfeld."
However, Crackle just joined the big leagues (in my humble opinion)
by
adding the first two seasons of "The Shield,"
the Emmy-winning FX cop show that only recently came to Amazon.
Of course, you need an Amazon Prime account ($79 annually) if you
want to watch the show there.

If you spend any time reading the responses to the jobs numbers you'll get a dizzying array of responses. Over the latest
jobs report, Minority Whip Eric Cantor is quoted as saying, "
As the administration continues to spend, our debt keeps piling up,
preventing private sector job growth." Meanwhile, Obama says, "
Make no mistake, we are headed in the right direction." So who's right?
The answer: they're both wrong.
