How does "activate coupon" work if you're at the checkout and nothing happens?

I Pressed activate code it took me to the stores sight, but now what? I pressed checkout and nothing has happened. I do not want to put in my card info and it makes me pay for it full price.

Usually when you hit activate code, the prices marked are discounted already. Hope this helps.
