Is there anywhere to go to get a truly free credit report?

It seems like all the credit reporting places require you to sign up for something in order to gain access to your credit report.

By law, you're entitled to one free credit report each year. http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the only authorized source for this (and it is totally free). You can find more info at http://www.ftc.gov/freereports.

Yes, http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the only place to legitimately get a free anual credit report. You will be able to request a FREE report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies...Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. Since you're entitled to a free report from each of these agencies on an annual basis I would suggest staggering your requests so that you can monitor your credit report all year long for free. Most of the same information is contained on each report. So, for instance, you could order your free report from Experian now. Then, in four months order your free report from Trans Union and in another four months order your free report from Equifax. You will then have successfully monitored your credit all year long for FREE. This is especially helpful for keeping an eye out for identity theft!

You might also check out https://www.creditkarma.com/ which is a free site that pulls your TransUnion credit report and gives you an analysis of it. It'll tell you a credit score which is basically their estimate of your FICO score, but it isn't exact.

This is a legitimately free site, but they use targeted advertising based on the information in your credit report, and that could make some people uneasy. When I log into my account, it shows a bunch of ads for credit cards and mortgages which are supposedly better than my current ones. I don't pay much attention to that stuff.

I have found a couple of them on http://www.cardtrak.com/credit_reports

I signed up for the free trials and I'm very good at canceling in time... I'm impatient so I like to get everything online and I don't have the time to mail in for my free report I'm entitled to.
