We have found that items like you are looking for (larger, outdoor items) are sometimes just as good used as they are new. With that said, I would check your local classifieds to see if anyone is trying to sell one.

If you're not sure where to start, first check your newspaper. However, we have also found our local news outlets to have FREE classifieds that encourages people to place sell larger items (such as a dog house) that they normally wouldn't sell otherwise.

In addition, check those sites as they often post yard sale information as well. We just found a garage sale near our neighborhood for this weekend that is trying to sell an igloo dog house by doing just that.

Lastly, check freecycle.org which is an amazing forum allowing people to offer items for free they they no longer need and provide you the ability to not only search for that item but post and state that you are looking for a particular item as well.

Amazon has a great deal right now on a small doghouse. It's regularly $89 marked down to $54. It got mostly good reviews too.

I often see listings for dog houses on Craigs list for very cheap to free. I would suggest checking there first. If it is just going to sit outside, a used dog house wouldn't be so bad.

Or, you might consider getting a kennel that can be used as a dog house as well as a carrier to transport your dog in the car. This might cost a little more upfront, but it does double duty. '

Don't forget to check criagslist! We have bought all of our dog crates and houses from there. They are often like new for a fraction of what you would pay in the store. :)

Try the clearance sections of your local stores! You never no what kind of deals are in the clearance section!

CSN has got some and their shipping if free most of the time. Also I agree try Craigslist.

I really like Craigslist.com to find large items in my area. It's a fraction of the cost and since house foreclosures are going up, people seem to be selling items they can't move with.

Also try http://www.freecycle.org, you may find one for free!
