Looking to take advantage of low interest rates by refinancing. Where do I begin? Go to my bank or find cheapest online rate/lender?

I've worked in mortgage lead gen so the last thing I want to do is give my info to Lending Tree and receive hundreds of calls. How do I find a legitimate lender with low rates and fees?

I've refinanced before with my own personal bank and they actually gave me a killer deals because I had multiple accounts with them and had a longstanding relationship with them. I agree about LendingTree. It's probably best to call around or get referrals.

You should try reading this article before you refinance: http://www.moneycrashers.com/should-i-re….

The Digerati Life has a section that deals with refinancing rates:

That might be a good place to start.

We've found that the best way to compare rates was to call around to the banks around town and just see who was better. We ended up finding the best rates with a credit union because they can set their own rates. Banks and other lending companies are mostly stuck with what the prime rate is at the time.

Calling around to your local banks is a great starting point. I also recommend checking rates on bankrate.com. It can help you zero in on who to call.
