What's a good supplement for dogs with easily irritable skin?

Lately, my dog continuously scratches himself, but he doesn't have any fleas or ticks. I'm assuming he is lacking something in his diet, making his skin irritable.

Dry skin can often be helped with Omega supplements. Since trying to get a dog to swallow pills is really difficult, you might want to try these chewable Omega pet treats: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js…

Not sure what a Vet would say about the itching/scratching, and if there's something he is allergic to... but I've had luck with Linatone Shed Relief. That brand has some other products also that are similar, but this particular one seems to help my older dog's dry and flaky skin. http://www.amazon.com/Linatone-Shed-Reli…. I've also had success with putting olive oil into his food everyday.

There are a few over the counter ointments available that might help with immediate results or at least provide some temporary relief until you find the root of the problem.

I purchased Sulfodene 3-way ointment for mine and it seemed to help ease the intensity of her need to scratch. Definitely agree with couponmama about a vet check up as well.
