Ethical Coupon Practices

There are certain ethical guidelines and legal issues that all couponers should be aware of.

1. Use coupons on intended products only.

2. Do not use coupons past the expiration date (unless you are military using coupons at a commissary).

3. Use coupons according to store policy.

4. Coupon decoding is illegal.

5. Coupons cannot be copied.

6. Do not clear the shelves - courtesy to other customers and couponers is the best way to go!

7. Selling a stockpile violates the terms of the coupons and health codes.

Re: Ethical Coupon Practices

Another little thing, although for a lot of people it's not possible - is trying to be strategic about the times a person hits the store. One time frame I've noticed that is always super busy is the 'right after work hours'. I'll stop for one or two items but never any more than that.

I know some people don't have a choice in their shopping times, so, at least have the coupons nice and organized and make sure they're all valid.

Since I'm an early bird out chasing worms, I tend to hit the stores when it's nice and quiet. One thing that I really like about that is being able to watch to make sure all my coupons process. Plus, I've made some very special friends with the early am crew.

As far as shelf clearing, it irks the halibut out of me. I've got a Pavlovian response that clicks in my head ... I hear Jerry Seinfeld growling "Newman".

Hazel, that's very considerate! I will have to start doing that whenever possible.
