Counterfeit Coupon Bust in Phoenix - And how to spot frauds

A huge counterfeit coupon operation in Phoenix was just recently busted (news hit the internet hard today). These women had been running a counterfeit coupon operation, and selling the coupons on their site and through Ebay to many unknowing consumers, while costing manufacturers and stores millions of dollars. It is the largest counterfeit coupon operation ever discovered.

If you bought counterfeit coupons and try to use them, you are subject to arrest and charges. Our advice? Never ever pay money for a coupon...it's better to be safe than sorry. And pretty much all coupons will tell you in the fine print that they aren't to be bought, sold or traded.

Unsure if a coupon you have is legit? Check the CIC Fraud List: http://www.couponinformationcenter.com/c…

Two of our DealPros wrote blog posts on this to help you learn how to spot frauds, and understand more details on ethical couponing practices:

Glad to know this Coupon Ring has been busted. A little concerning that they were buying these coupons from over seas, that there website is still up and running. Hopefully the website will be taken down soon.

Re: Counterfeit Coupon Bust in Phoenix - And how to spot frauds

Thanks much for the post - I'm so glad they nabbed these goofballs.

It also helps to read something like this because when I try and use printables at Wal*Mart & Safeway most of the cashiers just turn them down flat. They always tell me how much coupon fraud they have to deal with.

Half of me thinks they do it because they don't want to deal with the printables.

I've never bought a coupon but I've thought about it at times. After reading this, I won't even consider it!

I'm a little too old to be sent up the river because I wanted an extra free tube of toothpaste!

There's always an afterthought in my brain and this one is irritated. That's just going to make it harder and harder for us peoples to coupon. Grrr kitties!

I know what you mean! Sadly, these types of things push stores to have stricter and stricter policies. The honest couponers are the ones who suffer.
