It's official: the HP TouchPad is dead. Wait, what? Didn't
HP launch its much-ballyhooed
iPad competitor just last month? And didn't I
review it just a few weeks ago? There must be some mistake.

Newsworthy
When I'm looking to buy kids' toys, I am looking for three things:
One: I want it to be cheap, because in these hard times, affordability is key.
Two: I want it to be safe, because choking hazards and badly made toys just aren't good for your kids to play with.
And three: I want it to creep me the heck out.
What, you don't want your kids' toys to freak you out? You're obviously in the minority there, because these
Cartoon Shaped USB Rechargeable Mini Portable Speakers are the creepiest things in the world, but I bet your kids would love them.

If you buy a CD, you're allowed to copy the songs from that CD to your
iPod or other
MP3 player. So it stands to reason that if you buy a DVD, you should be able to copy the movie to your phone, tablet, or other portable player.
Alas, it's not that simple. Most
DVDs are copy-protected, meaning you need special software to work around Hollywood's annoying restriction. And it's not uncommon for a "DVD ripper" to sell for as much as $50.

Suck on this!
No wait--don't! These little suckers may look delicious and crunchy and they may fool you by coming in "flavors" like cherry, lemon, blueberry, orange, and green apple, but you can't eat them. Or I guess you could, but you probably wouldn't like the taste. Unless you like eating electronics, in which case maybe you shouldn't be reading about lollipop-shaped speakers in the first place...

Loose Change
This week's trip into the land of wacky products has me sufficiently inspired enough to give in to my sudden uncontrollable craving and dig through my stash of "emergency" (don't ask) Hershey's Chocolate bars.

Stuff We Like
People often come to me and Guy asking us if there is any way to get free music legally. It's a tough question to answer because it depends on what you're looking for. If you mean a place where you can legally download any song you want and then transfer it to any device you want (i.e. download Katy Perry's Teenage Dream and put it on your iPod), then the answer is pretty much "No." There are tons of options out there, like Pandora and Last.FM, that will let you stream a radio station of similar music to whatever you're looking for (even if it's as bad as Teenage Dream).
However, two new alternatives are popping up for the mobile community to give you more freedom over the songs you hear: MOG and Rdio.
