Is Walmart+ Worth It in 2025? A Breakdown of Membership Perks

Subscription fatigue is real. Between streaming apps (remember the good old days when Netflix had a monopoly?), meal kits, audiobooks, games, and mystery boxes filled with cosmetics, clothing, pet toys—even succulents—monthly fees add up fast. If your credit card were human, it might be developing back problems from carrying all those memberships.

So, should you add Walmart+ to the list? Surprisingly, it might help you cancel a few others.

First Off, What Is Walmart+?

Before we crunch the numbers, here are the basics: Walmart+ is a paid membership that unlocks a bunch of perks for $98 a year—or $12.95 a month. From big cities to small towns, if there’s a Walmart nearby, chances are you’re eligible. (Are you in America? Then chances are there’s a Walmart nearby.)

What Do You Get with Walmart+?

Some Walmart+ perks are perfect if you’re a regular in the store aisles, while others are totally digital—so you can still benefit even if you never set foot in a Walmart (or anywhere else outside your home, for that matter, because the world is a horrifying place). Here are the big ones:

  • Free Same-Day Grocery Delivery – Don’t love waiting in line, only for the cashier to sneeze on your strawberries? Let the groceries come to you.
  • Free Shipping (No Minimum) – Yes, you can order just one pair of socks. Or a single sock.
  • At-Home Returns – Return eligible items without leaving the house. A deliveryperson (return person?) will show up at your door to pick up unwanted purchases—you might want to put that sock back in the packaging out of simple courtesy, though.
  • Pharmacy Delivery – Feeling under the weather (possibly from that sneezy cashier)? Prescriptions show up at your door, no pharmacy visit required.
  • Paramount+ Streaming – Stream over 40,000 episodes, movies, CBS Sports HQ, and enough Star Trek to keep the Trekkie in your life happily beamed up for hundreds of hours. (Want a more premium library? You can upgrade to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME for $5.49 a month or $64.99 a year, a 57% discount.)
  • Walmart+ Travel – Plan your next escape with Expedia-powered deals. Pro tip: Have groceries delivered to your Airbnb so you don’t end up wandering a new town, overpaying for “artisan" cucumbers at the fancy local market.
  • 24/7 Online Pet Care – Unlimited access to licensed vets through Pawp. Because Fido deserves better than you Googling “did my dog eat too much chocolate" at 2 a.m.
  • Mobile Scan & Go – Forgot your wallet in the car? Scan and pay as you go, then breeze past the checkout line. (Wait—where’d the sneezing cashier go? Are they okay?!)
  • Fuel Discounts – Save up to 10¢ per gallon at over 13,000 gas stations, whether it’s a road trip or just the daily commute.
  • Free Tire Repair – Road trip going great until—hissss—flat tire. No problem. Get it fixed at any Walmart Auto Care Center, even if you didn’t buy the tires there.
  • Burger King Discounts – All this shopping works up an appetite. Get 25% off digital BK orders (limit one per day) and a free Whopper every three months to satisfy your flame-broiled hankerings.

How Much Can You Save?

Items in Walmart+ Shopping Bag

It depends on how many Walmart+ benefits you use—and how often—but if you were to take advantage of everything, the savings could add up to around $1,000 per year (or $900 per year if you subtract the $98 annual membership fee). Here’s a rough breakdown:

  • Delivery – Without Walmart+, deliveries from Walmart cost up to $9.95 each, so weekly users could save over $500/year.
  • Shipping – Walmart’s shipping fee is normally $6.99 for orders under $35. Even if you only buy one small item per month, it adds up to about $85/year.
  • Streaming – Paramount+, included with Walmart+ (yes, more pluses in our brave new world) is a $59.99 annual value.
  • Gas – The average American burns through 500 gallons of fuel per year. With a 10¢ per gallon savings, that’s an extra $50 burning a hole in your pocket instead.
  • Pawp – The pet care service otherwise costs $99 annually, which you can reallocate to the kibble budget.
  • Burgers – A free Whopper every few months is worth about $40 per year. If you’re a Burger King power user (power muncher?), the 25% daily discount is worth its weight in beef—or soy and coconut oil, if you go with the Impossible Whopper.

In April 2025, Walmart+ is also throwing in a bundle of rotating offers worth over $150. Whereas the perks mentioned above are included for Walmart+ members on an ongoing basis, the rotating offers are (mostly) free trials to various services; when the trials end, you’ll need to either cancel or pay full price. They currently include:

  • Apple News+ (3 months free) – $40 value
  • Apple Arcade (5 months free) – $35 value
  • Focus Pro (3 months free) – $30 savings
  • Happier Meditation (50% off annual subscription) — $50 savings
  • Viator (12% off travel experiences)

You’ll probably use some Walmart+ benefits and skip others, so the ultimate savings depend on your shopping frequency and creativity. (One Reddit user shared a frugal tip: they send flowers using Walmart+ for special occasions, so the membership “pays for itself with just Mother’s Day for me.")

Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Which Should You Choose?

It’s natural to compare Walmart+ to Amazon Prime, since both offer free shipping, grocery delivery, and extras. We could dedicate thousands of words to this topic, but we’d rather be shopping—do we have a problem?—so here’s an incredibly brief takeaway on how they serve different needs.

  • Amazon Prime leans into digital convenience: streaming, gaming, Kindle books, Audible, Echo devices, and more
  • Walmart+, on the other hand, is rooted in real-world utility: gas, auto, prescriptions and pet care

In other words, Walmart+ tends to appeal most to people who shop regularly at Walmart and don’t need Alexa to remind them when to brush their teeth. Speaking of which: Hey Alexa, set reminder to floss, too.

The Bottom Line

If you’re a regular Walmart customer, Walmart+ offers real value when it comes to ordering online, shopping in-store, fueling up your car, watching Paramount+, chowing down on Burger King, 24/7 vet video visits, and even fixing a flat tire. With all of these perks, you can reasonably expect to save around $1,000 each year.

That said, like any subscription, it’s only a good deal if you actually use it—for example, the monthly mystery box that just arrived on our doorstep. (Succulents. It’s succulents.)
