By 2050, the world’s oceans may have more plastic than fish, says research. The rise in single-use plastic due to the Covid-19 pandemic has only added to the irreversible and detrimental effects of climate change. Of the organizations that have sprouted in response to the negative changes on earth, 4ocean is a purpose-driven brand that seeks to end the ocean plastic crisis.

The sustainable apparel company consists of professional, full-time captains and crews who recover harmful materials from the ocean, and educators who want to encourage individuals to avoid depending on single-use plastic. For every purchase, whether it’s apparel or bracelets, 4ocean promises to pull a pound of plastic from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines. Recently, 4ocean announced that they’ve pulled 14 million pounds of trash from the ocean; their goal for the rest of 2021 is to raise that number to 20 million.

Bracelets That Clean Our Oceans

April is a special month for 4ocean, mainly because the Cause of the Month is Earth Day, with this year’s theme being “Restore Our Planet." The theme “brings attention to natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking to protect and restore ecosystems impacted by climate change."

4ocean is pulling one pound of trash for every limited edition Earth Day Bracelet purchased, which is only available this month. The three bracelets are made from recycled materials and hand-assembled in Bali. The company is also joining hands with nonprofit organization SeaTrees by Sustainable Surf, donating $1 for every Earth Bracelet sold to protect and restore blue-carbon ecosystems which will help reverse the effects of climate change.

The bracelets are made with blue, green, and white cords, which represent the marine, coastal, and terrestrial environments impacted by pollution. Each strand is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, which includes less than 5% of recycled ocean plastic. The clear beads are made from 95% post-consumer recycled glass, which includes less than 5% reclaimed ocean glass. Each bead represents the conscious decisions and efforts we make to reduce our plastic footprints and live a more ocean-minded lifestyle.

Limited Edition Earth Day Beaded Bracelet

1. Limited Edition Earth Day Beaded Bracelet

Price: $20

This Earth Day Beaded Bracelet is only available in the month of April and won’t make a reappearance. If you prefer the look of beaded bracelets, this one’s for you! Each bead represents your efforts in reducing single-use plastic to protect and restore our oceans. The bracelet comes with two charms made from 95% recycled stainless steel — the globe charm and 4o charm. Wearing the bracelet is more than just a fashion choice; it’s a sustainability-driven statement to take part in cleaning and saving our oceans.

Limited Edition Earth Day Braided Bracelet

2. Limited Edition Earth Day Braided Bracelet

Price: $20

Not a fan of the beaded bracelet look and would prefer the braided style instead? This Earth Day Braided Bracelet is a little thicker than the beaded bracelet, but it has the same two charms. There’s also a clear bead where you cinch the bracelet to fit your wrist. You’ll get to see the blue, green, and white colors more clearly. So, if you like the color scheme, the braided bracelet is your top pick.

Limited Edition Earth Day 2-Pound Pack

3. Limited Edition Earth Day 2-Pound Pack

Price: $40

Can’t decide whether you’re Team Beaded or Team Braided? Why not just choose both? This Earth Day 2-Pound Pack includes both bracelets, which means two pounds of trash will be pulled instead of one. The weight of wearing two bracelets holds much more significance now — or gift one to a best friend.

4ocean Pound+ Donation Program

Pound+ Donations

The sustainable brand offers an alternative for those who don’t want to buy their products: the Pound+ directly funds the removal of trash for only $10, be it a one-time purchase or monthly commitment. Massive amounts of plastic that have traveled across the oceans thousands of miles away end up on Bali’s coastlines, hence why 4ocean chose their base of operations in Bali. The 4ocean Bali crew recovers an average of 17,000 pounds of trash every day! The Pound+ Donations go towards the company’s cleanup operations, which includes equipment, vessels, and facilities that are used and operated by their full-time crews and staff members.
