When it comes to buying Halloween candy, I’m usually the procrastinator wandering all-but-empty aisles, hoping for leftovers that won’t get our house egged. This year, though, I planned ahead and scored a sweet Walmart haul for just $53 plus tax.
Prices and inventory vary by store and region, so you probably can’t replicate my exact haul below (and you can probably find even better deals at your favorite wholesale club if you belong to Sam’s, BJ’s, or Costco). But with a little strategy, you can fill your candy bowl, stick to your budget, and still have cash left for spooky decorations in a single Walmart run.
Hershey 55-piece Variety Pack
Price: $9.94 for 55

This Hershey variety pack feels like hitting the jackpot because it’s got Almond Joy (my favorite) and Milk Duds, which you hardly ever see anymore. They might be one of the most underrated chocolate treats! Reese’s, KitKat, and traditional Hershey bars round out this must-have mix, plus Reese’s Pumpkin (people will either love it or hate it).
Ring Pop, Assorted Flavor
Price: $6.48 for 22

My kids go crazy for Ring Pops, and I’m sure the trick-or-treaters will, too. With 22 pops per box, they’re about $.30 each. I couldn’t pass up this deal; I suspect I may need to restock before October 31.
Dum-Dums
Price: $5.87 in-store ($16.46 for 300 online)

I put Dum-Dums lollipops in a separate teal bowl or a teal pumpkin so kids with allergies know they have a safe choice. (Toddlers and preschoolers also love these.)
Airheads Chewy Candy Variety Pack
Price: $10.84 in-store ($2.58 for 9 online)

This classic taffy, which has been around since the 1980s, is surprisingly popular on TikTok. If kids are paying money for Airheads, I figured they’d be thrilled to get some in their trick-or-treat bag for free. Bonus: They’re also peanut-, treenut- and gluten-free.
Hershey’s Full-Size Candy Bars
Price in store: $19.87 in-store ($24.88 for 18 online)

I’ve never splurged to buy full-size bars for Halloween, mainly because I don’t want to get stuck with all that chocolate if it’s a slow year. But Walmart has a decent price for an 18-bar variety pack of Hershey’s, KitKat, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, if you want to spoil the neighborhood kids (and their teeth) rotten.
